Dainik Jagran Journalist Abhishek Tripathi alleges that BCCI executive president Rajiv Shukla backed Rinku Singh's Asia Cup selection despite poor form across domestic tournaments as well as the IPL.
The Asia Cup is scheduled to be played from the 9th of September, while the Indian selectors finally took their much-awaited call and announced the Indian 15-member squad for the upcoming continental championship. However, ever since the release, tensions have soared.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has once again not considered Shreyas Iyer for selection into the Asia Cup squad, despite his irresistible performance in the shortest format of the game.
Journalists' wild claim - Stages major scam behind Rinku Singh's selection in Asia Cup squad
Ever since the snub of Shreyas Iyer, controversies have started to build around the Indian Asia Cup squad. Now, Dainik Jagran senior reporter Abhishek Tripathi has made a massive claim, staging Rajiv Shukla as the main perpetrator behind Rinku Singh's selection over Shreyas Iyer.
"Rinku and Samson should not have made it to the squad if their recent form were to be considered, but there are certain other factors that lead to the selection of a player," said Abhishek Tripathi.
He further accused, saying, "Rinku Kahan se aate hai (Where does Rinku belong from)?"
Replied: "Uttar Pradesh"
Abhishek again, "Hamare karya adhyaksh kahan gaye hai is samaye (Where is the executive President of BCCI currently?)"
He posed a major allegation that Rajiv Shukla, the interim President of the BCCI, has influenced the selection committee to have Rinku Singh in the side.

Shreyas Iyer's snub has been found 'discrepant'
Though Shreyas was India's best batter in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and a standout skipper and batter in the domestic tournaments for Mumbai and for the Punjab Kings in the IPL, he has failed to impress the Indian selectors to make a comeback into the Indian T20I side.
Iyer last played a T20I international for India back in 2023; on the other hand, India considered Shubman Gill for making his T20 debut and cited his brilliance in the IPL as a major reason. Iyer, despite having the same reason, has been ignored.
This decision has been found discrepant by the ICT fans as well as several cricket analysts and pundits. According to Agarkar's statement, Iyer has not been picked due to the unavailability of a position within the Indian side where he could be swapped; however, Rinku Singh's form has been questionable, and Shreyas is great coming in at no. 5 or 6 in the middle order.
Rinku Singh's poor form in IPL over the last 2 seasons
After a dominant season in 2023, KKR batter Rinku Singh was picked by the Indian selectors for the T20I side. He, too, never looked back and continued his great form with the Men in Blue.
However, after that year's brilliance, Rinku's fate has been doomed in the game, as he has a string of only low scores in the IPL seasons that followed. Rinku has played the 2024 and 2025 seasons, scoring just 374 runs across 28 games with an average of less than 25.
Though his strike rate might not have dipped yet, Rinku has failed to perform on several occasions when his team needed him the most.
