Rinku Singh was once again at the center of an Indian run chase in the first T20I in Visag on Thursday. His knock of 22* off 14 balls helped India complete their highest successful run chase in T20Is. India won the match by two wickets winning the match off the final ball. The Men In Blue now have chased more the 200 five times in T20Is, more than any other team in international cricket.

Team India needed seven off six balls with Rinku Singh keeping a calm head to take India over the line despite three wickets falling in the final over. He hit a six off Sean Abbott in the final ball to win India the match and take a lead in the series. As it turned out, it was a no-ball by Abbott thus the six hit by Rinku did not count while the one run was.

After the match, veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik who was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2018-2021 in the IPL spoke about the role of Abhishek Nayar in the rise of Rinku Singh..

Nayar himself spoke about how Rinku is slowly becoming India’s next finisher much like MS Dhoni and starting right from where he left off. Karthik revealed the bond between Rinku and Nayar started growing since IPL 2018 and how Nayar played a key role in Rinku realizing his potential.

Dinesh Karthik On Bond Between Rinku Singh & Abhishek Nayar

“The relationship between ABHISHEK NAYAR and RINKU SINGH. It was a partnership that started in 2018 during my time at KKR. Nayar always saw the potential in Rinku, he kept telling me, it was only a matter of time before he did something really special. Coming from a small town in Aligarh, all he needed was to think big, and I think that shift in mindset was what Nayar worked with Rinku majorly about apart from fine-tuning his death-hitting skills,” Karthik wrote while sharing a photo of Abhishek hugging Rinku.

Karthik further revealed how despite an injury, Nayar persuaded KKR CEO Venky Mysore to keep Rinku on the side Rinku stayed at Nayar’s residence post-IPL for several months for rehabilitation and worked on his batting skills.

“Even during the time he had an ACL injury, Nayar convinced @VenkyMysore sir who gracefully accepted Rinku to be part of the team and made him travel and stay with KKR. He stayed in Nayar’s house post-IPL for many months for Rehab and started working on his batting and had a stellar domestic season and then eventually did what Nayar and KKR always thought he could do, a MATCH WINNING FINISHER” DK further wrote in his tweet.

He further beautifully described the emotion behind Abhishek Nayar hugging Rinku Singh at the end of the first T20I against Australia in Vizag.

“And today when I see this photo, I just feel like NAYAR as a coach has grown in stature and can share the happiness he feels for Rinku along with the rest of the world. Must be a surreal feeling seeing one of your students do well on a world stage and also be lucky enough to watch it live as a broadcaster and call the moment. Well done @abhisheknayar1 and @rinkusingh235. To many more such stories,” Karthik concluded saying.

India take on Australia in the second T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, November 26.
