Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir is not a great appreciator of individual performances, even if it is a masterclass. He often regards the achievements of the entire team instead of focusing only on one performer.
However, Rishabh Pant's audacity and his courage to come back to the field have left even Gautam Gambhir bowing down to the 27-year-old. Pant has been ruled out of the 5th Test, which will conclude on his birthday, the 4th of August.
Rishabh Pant's huge injury blow has had an impact on his hopes for the remainder of the series, as he has been reported to have a fracture on the right foot.
Rule Broken by Gautam Gambhir for Pant's sake
After Rishabh Pant broke his foot while looking to play Chris Woakes' full toss with a reverse sweep, he was immediately carried off the field in a golf cart and subjected to immediate medical attention.
However, after Shardul Thakur's wicket, when India needed someone to put on a partnership alongside Washington Sundar and the tailenders, Pant went into the field hobbling with a fractured foot.
This courageous move and devotion to the game have impressed Gautam Gambhir as well, who has finally broken his silence on the matter and kept aside his rule to praise the player individually.
“The foundation of this Test team will be based on what Rishabh you’ve done for this team," Gautam Gambhir said.
“I hate talking about individuals. I’ve never spoken about individuals in a team sport. You’ve not only inspired this dressing room, but you’ve inspired the next generation. This is what you’ve done," added Gautam Gambhir in the dressing room speech.
“And that is the legacy which you’ve created for yourself and for everyone in this dressing room. So very, very well done from everyone. And the country will be… is always… will always be proud of you," he further added.

Rishabh Pant's been replaced by former CSK and KKR wicket-keeper
The BCCI and the Indian selectors have named Narayan Jagadeesan as Rishabh Pant's replacement.
Jagadeesan is a wicket-keeper batter who plays for Tamil Nadu and has produced some crucial domestic knocks, and was also a part of IPL franchises like the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Jagadeesan, a 29-year-old wicket-keeper batsman for Tamil Nadu, has featured in 52 First-Class games in his career and has amassed 3373 runs at a healthy average of 47. He has 10 first-class hundreds and a promising triple century as well. One of his greatest records is the highest List A runs in a single innings, 277, surpassing Rohit Sharma's 264* in an ODI against Sri Lanka.
India now has three centurions at Old Trafford
Before India played the fourth Test of the ongoing India vs England Test series at Old Trafford, they had a long wait of 35 years for a century at this venue by an Indian batter. It was back in 1990, when a 17-year-old Sachin Tendulkar scored the last hundred for India at Manchester.
However, after Day 5's conclusion, India now has three centurions in the same match at Old Trafford, as Shubman Gill (103), Ravindra Jadeja (107*), and Washington Sundar (101*) all scored hundreds in the second innings of the Test match.
