Legendary South African pacer Dale Steyn slammed Indian stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant after he was dismissed in a weird fashion, leaving India devastated in their chase in Guwahati.

South Africa dominated India in the Guwahati Test, as they scored 487 runs and then rattled the Indian batting innings with 7 wickets falling in no time. Marco Jansen picked up 4 wickets after a standout innings with the bat.

At the stroke of Lunch, India were reduced to 7 wickets with Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav resisting the South African attack for most of the second session of play.

Irresponsible Rishabh Pant dismissed after a very short stay in Guwahati

Rishabh Pant was slandered for his poor form and his irresponsible gameplay under such intense situations. The stand-in skipper for India and one of the three most experienced batters in the longest format of the game, Pant came out to bat when three sudden wickets had castled the Indian flow of runs.

At that phase, with a lead for South Africa already in the series, Pant was needed to stick in and revive stability in the innings. He would have gotten the scoreboard ticking had he stayed longer in the crease.

But Rishabh Pant compromised the innings with his unnecessarily long levers. Pant hit a six off Harmer in the very over of Sai Sudharsan's dismissal and was then dismissed off Marco Jansen's bowling for just 7 runs, having played just 8 deliveries into the innings.

However, the left-handed batter threw his wicket away immediately after the start. Marco Jansen and the rest of the South African lineup celebrated after the fifth Indian wicket.

Such a blind dismissal had occurred previously when he played for India and got dismissed after a poor shot, when Sunil Gavaskar came up with the 'stupid, stupid, stupid' remark. Pant stepped down to Marco Jansen and nicked the ball as it went back to Verreynne.

With this catch, Verreynne also became just the fifth South African wicketkeeper to get to 100 dismissals in Test cricket, after Mark Boucher (553), Quinton de Kock (232), David Richardson (152) and John Waite (141).

Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn also reacted to Pant's dismissal, “That is just a brainfade shot,” Steyn wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

India continue a similar struggle to that of Eden Gardens

Rishabh Pant lasted eight balls in the innings, as India soon scored seven runs, with the help of one six only. The opening stand of 65 was broken between Jaiswal and Rahul by Keshav Maharaj.

Simon Harmer then struck twice, and Marco Jansen cleared the entire middle order as he dismissed the likes of Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Since then, Kuldeep Yadav has played over 100 balls in the innings.
