Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa said that India is looking unstoppable in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, and they are the clear favorites to defend their title. The Indian cricket team has won all three of their group-stage games. Then, they carried this momentum into the Super Four stage, beating Pakistan by six wickets to continue their dominance in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.
Coming off their ICC T20 World Cup 2025 triumph, the Men in Blue have been dominating T20I cricket, winning 21 of their last 24 matches under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy. Recently, Robin called India the overwhelming favorites to lift the trophy in Dubai on September 28.
India overwhelming favorites to defend Asia Cup title: Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa mentioned that the entire Indian cricket team has been playing with great energy, determination, and an aggressive approach and performing well in all areas of the game—batting, bowling, and fielding—which will eventually help them to lift the trophy.

Robin Uthappa said on the KimApa YouTube show, “No one (on any threat to India). If that even is a possibility, India must have a terrible day. To think that these youngsters are going to have a terrible day—it can happen in cricket, but it seems highly unlikely. A lot of them are playing for their spots in the World Cup, and everything can change. Everyone's driven to perform, so it's very unlikely that India won't walk away with the Asia Cup.”
A big reason for India’s success has been their opening pair, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. Abhishek Sharma has been in incredible form, amassing 173 runs in four matches at an amazing strike rate of 208.43. He is the leading run scorer of the tournament so far.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill has also been giving India a perfect start and putting the bowlers under a lot of pressure. Indian openers’ fearless batting and ability to hit boundaries from the very first ball make it very hard for opponents to control the game.
And the former Indian batter highlighted how dangerous this opening pair is, saying the early aggression from Abhishek and Gill forces the bowlers onto the back foot immediately.
Robin Uthappa signed off by saying, “Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill are in some stellar form. The fact that the first two or three balls are either going to the boundary or over it puts a lot of pressure on the bowlers. Bowlers will automatically be on the back foot, especially with the way Abhishek is batting right now. And Gill was matching him shot for shot. That's a dangerous combination.”

On the other hand, it is being said that the Indian chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, stayed back in Dubai to discuss Shubman Gill’s roadmap with head coach Gautam Gambhir, including the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the white-ball series in Australia, and the Test series against South Africa at home.
Notably, India is the defending Asia Cup champion in the ODI format, and now they are determined to win the T20 Asia Cup as well.
