The India National Cricket Team will be hosting the West Indies for a three-match ODI series. Ahead of that, one question is still being circulated about whether Rohit Sharma will be featuring in the ODI World Cup 2027. Now the former India captain has broken the silence on his participation in the major tournament.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not provided any kind of official update on Rohit Sharma’s participation in the forthcoming ODI World Cup. Officials have consistently avoided the question, and some have answered it differently, leaving the former captain's status unclear. Rohit is expected to play in the series against the West Indies.
Rohit Sharma shares update on ODI World Cup future
Rohit Sharma was present at an event on Thursday and shared an update on his future in the ODI World Cup. An audience member at an event in Mumbai asked him about whether he would feature in the tournament, and the former India skipper gave a one-line answer, which again did not give clarity on whether he will surely be playing in the tournament or not.
"October 2027 is far away; we will see about it then," he said at the Global Fintech Fest.
Rohit Sharma's form in England
Rohit Sharma recently featured in the series against England, where fans saw a vintage performance in the last ODI at Lord’s, as he took his time early on in the innings and smacked a brilliant 138 off 110 deliveries, and became the first India batter to score a hundred at the iconic venue. He got starts in the whole series but failed to convert until the final game.
There were rumours that it was Rohit’s last and final ODI game in England, as he was informed by the selectors that he was not being preferred for the next series. But putting everything aside, he continues his urge to play for the country and score runs in the 50-over format as he continues to work hard on his fitness to play till the next World Cup.
Rohit Sharma's form in the ODI 2025/2026 season
In the ODI format, he has scored 11,895 runs in 288 ODIs at an average of almost 49 and a strike rate of 93.04, with 34 centuries. He also holds the record for the most ODI World Cup centuries, with seven, including five centuries in the 2019 edition.
Rohit has been in good form since last year, top-scoring with 202 runs in 3 innings at an average of 101.00, which included his 50th international century, and also won the Player of the Series award despite India losing the series.
Following that, he scored a total of 146 runs in 3 innings during the India vs South Africa ODI series held in late November and December 2025. In the series against New Zealand, he failed to score many runs. In the upcoming home series against the West Indies, he would like to score some runs and confirm his place in the series.
