India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has achieved a massive feat in the history of international cricket. The right-hander became the third Indian opener after Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar and the tenth overall batter to score 15000 runs as an opening batter across all three formats of the game.
Rohit Sharma achieved the feat in the ongoing first ODI against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The first match of the three-game series between the teams is taking place at the R Premadasa Cricket in Colombo on Friday (2nd August).
After India restricted Sri Lanka to a total of 230 runs on a pitch which has been difficult for batters, skipper Rohit Sharma has taken his team off to a flying start. The opening batter seemed to be batting on a different track as he has played some magnificent shots.
Rohit Sharma asserted his authority right from the start as he shimmied down the track on the second ball to slam a massive six and start his inning on high. Since then he hasn’t looked back and has looked extremely dangerous on the field.
Rohit Sharma went beserk and slammed Sri Lanka bowlers all over the park. The India captain has made bowlers look clueless and has scored runs at a quick pace. His vital innings has ensured India is off to a brutal start with the bat in the chase of 230.
Rohit Sharma brought up his half-century inside to the power play. He brought up his fifty in just 33 balls and made head coach Gautam Gambhir appreciate him for his magnificent display of batting in the ongoing first ODI against Sri Lanka.
Rohit Sharma has been batting with an aggressive approach and is maintaining a strike rate of over 120. With the way he was going, he looked all set for a big ton. He provided his team with a great start but would be gutted to have not stayed there till the end and taken his team home.
Rohit Sharma ended with an innings of 58 runs off 47 balls. The opening batter batted with a strike rate of over 123 and also slammed 7 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. He also now has the most number of sixes by any captain in international cricket.
