Legendary India National Cricket Team spinner Harbhajan Singh has opined that the lean patch of skipper Rohit Sharma is a cause of concern for the team.

Harbhajan Singh believes that Rohit Sharma is under tremendous pressure in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and his poor form is making things worse for him.

Rohit Sharma having an awful time in Test cricket

India National Cricket Team captain Rohit is going through the worst form of his Test career at the moment. He has batted at different venues in different positions, but nothing has worked, and he hasn't been able to score runs.

His poor form started with the home series against Bangladesh where he registered scores of 6, 5, 23, and 8. As India won that series, Rohit didn't receive much criticism.

However, the absolute worst time for Rohit began in the New Zealand series as he registered scores of 2, 52, 0, 8, 1,8, and 11. Team India lost that series 0-3 and the skipper was brutally bashed.

There was a thought that the pitches in India weren't easy to bat on and Rohit could gain his form in Australia. However, that didn't happen either as he scored 3 and 6 runs across two innings in Adelaide Test as India faced a 10-wicket hammering.

Notably, he had missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opening match in Perth as he decided to stay with his wife after the birth of their second child.

When such a big player doesn't score runs, it will become a slight cause for concern - Harbhajan Singh

The bowling legend Harbhajan Singh was critical of Rohit Sharma after his awful performance in the Adelaide Test. Speaking to Star Sports, Harbhajan said that Rohit has all the ability in the world and has been a proven performer, but his current form is a huge concern.

"When such a big player doesn't score runs, it will become a slight cause for concern. We know that Rohit has great ability and has scored a lot of runs for India. However, he didn't score runs in this match and the previous series as well. When the runs are not scored, the pressure comes on the batter," Harbhajan Singh said.

We won't want the Indian captain to have the pressure of scoring his own runs - Harbhajan Singh

The legendary off-spinner further said that a captain having the pressure of scoring his own runs is never a good thing as it affects his performance as a captain.

Harbhajan Singh, meanwhile, is hopeful of Rohit making a strong comeback in the Brisbane Test and wants him to forget his Adelaide Test performance.

"We won't want the Indian captain to have the pressure of scoring his own runs, as it could affect his captaincy as well. We hope that he comes back to form. The conditions at other venues like Brisbane might suit him more. He needs to leave this match behind and think about what better can be done going forward and how the team can play better because the team is more important than his form," Harbhajan Singh said.
