Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has lashed out at Mumbai Indians batter Rohit Sharma for his failure in the game against Chennai Super Kings. He said that the opening batter should get his timing right before going for shots.

The start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 didn't go the way Mumbai Indians batter Rohit Sharma would've wanted. The opener batter struggled to get going and was back in the hut in the opening over of the match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Rohit Sharma was removed by Khaleel Ahmed for a four-ball duck during CSK vs MI in Chennai

Rohit was removed by Khaleel Ahmed for a four-ball duck as the batter attempted to play the flick for four, but he ended up picking out the man at mid-wicket to perfection. This was the third time he was removed by the left-arm pacer in his career.

Rohit, who in the last few years has adopted the fearless approach, attempted to do the same in the opening game of Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025. But failed to do that against Chennai Super Kings.

I mean just knock a few shots in the middle and then go for it - Kris Srikkanth to Rohit Sharma

Kris Srikkanth wasn't happy with Rohit Sharma, saying that the batter should take some balls to get his timing right. Speaking during the discussion on Star Sports, he said:

“It's T20 World Cup, whether it's Champions Trophy he goes for the shot. I just believe that earlier on he just has to get into the middle. I mean just knock a few shots in the middle and then go for it. I'm sure what you like to do that right when you're not timing the ball well. Let's just get your timing right and then go for it,”

It should take you a few balls, if not 6 balls at least to be able to really understand - Shane Watson on Rohit Sharma

Shane Watson, who was also present during the discussion, also was on the same page with Kris Srikkanth. He said that on a wicket like Chepauk, Rohit Sharma should've taken a few balls to understand the surface. He elaborated:

“Well, especially on a wicket that you're not exactly sure as to how the ball's reacting off the surface, knowing it's a little bit drier.

"It should take you a few balls, if not 6 balls at least, to be able to understand what the ball's doing. Is it swinging? But how's it reacting off the surface, and unfortunately for Rohit, he just hit the leading edge more part of his bat and wasn't able to get his innings going."

Rohit would be hoping to turn around things in the next few games of the IPL 2025. Mumbai Indians will be next taking on Gujarat Titans on Saturday (29th March).
