Former India cricketer RP Singh criticized Rohit Sharma for underutilizing Kuldeep Yadav on the first day of the fourth Test against England. RP Singh stated that Kuldeep Yadav wasn’t given enough overs, adding that Rohit Sharma heavily relied on other spin bowlers.

England posted a total of 302-7 by stumps at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Joe Root scored an unbeaten 106 runs off 226 balls with the help of nine boundaries. Debutant Akash Deep was the pick of the bowlers for India as he took three wickets.

Veteran spinner Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took one wicket each in England’s first innings. The duo bowled 49 overs out of 90 overs on the opening day. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav went wicketless on the first day but bowled only 10 overs.

Didn’t Use Kuldeep Yadav – RP Singh

During a Colors Cineplex discussion, RP Singh acknowledged the significant efforts of Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and the fast bowlers. However, he expressed concern over the underutilization of Kuldeep Yadav.

“The bowlers put in a lot of effort. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and both the fast bowlers put in a lot of effort. Siraj bowled better in his second spell than his first. The only thing I have a doubt about is that you didn’t use Kuldeep Yadav as much as you should have,” RP Singh told Colors Cineplex.

“Jadeja and Ashwin were over bowled and Kuldeep couldn’t bowl that much because of that, and this happens as well. When you have three spinners, and all three are wicket-takers, one of the bowlers is underbowled many times and that happened with Kuldeep here,” Singh added.

After the Tea break, Mohammed Siraj bowled a fiery reverse swing spell, dismissing Foakes and Tom Hartley to put India on the front foot. However, Ollie Robinson and Joe Root built a resilient partnership of 57 runs, guiding England to a total of 302/7 by the end of Day 1.

Kuldeep Yadav Could Have Been Bowled A Little Earlier – Aakash Chopra

Former India opener Aakash Chopra suggested that Rohit Sharma may have faced a dilemma due to the array of bowlers available to him. He emphasized that Kuldeep Yadav’s introduction into the attack was delayed and should have been bowled earlier in the game.

“It’s right, you are spoilt for choices when you have five bowlers. You get confused at times when you go to a buffet. Kuldeep Yadav was 100% introduced late. He could have been bowled a little earlier,” Chopra said on the same show.

Kuldeep Yadav came to bowl after the completion of 41 overs on the opening day of the ongoing match. The left-arm spinner bowled seven overs in his first spell and just three overs in his second spell. Yadav returned figures of 0-21 in his 10 overs.

The home team rested Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth Test to manage his workload. The right-arm pacer was the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing five-match Test series. He bowled a total of 80.5 overs and picked up 17 wickets at an average of 13.65.
