Indian opener Rohit Sharma had stated that he would play his favorite stroke, the pull shot, no matter what the situation is. He had made it a point of getting runs off the bouncer, but it has come about to become his undoing at Lord’s.

While facing Mark Wood, Rohit pulled a delivery off the front foot for a six over deep square leg. Not defied by the shot, Wood decided to stick with his gameplan and bowled another bumper. This time, it was a bit higher than the previous one.

However, Rohit had already made up his mind to go for the shot and he went through with it. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t in control this time around. He ended up hitting it straight to Moeen Ali in the deep, who accepted the catch gleefully.

Wood was elated that his efforts had paid off. It was another matter of Rohit getting a start and into the 20’s before being dismissed. It’s the second time in three dismissals that the short ball has brought about the Hitman’s downfall.

Having conceded a 27-run lead on Day 3, India had the task of seeing out the new ball and securing their position in the Test. The first few overs of Day 4 were seen out by the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Root decided to bring in an early change and introduced Mark Wood into the attack. The move paid dividends as the first-innings centurion, Rahul, was sent packing in the 9th over. Rohit at the other end was playing freely but soon succumbed to the same bowler.

At the time of Rohit’s dismissal, the scores were level. Wood, after proving to be ineffective in the first innings, has looked the deadliest of the bowlers so far. If he keeps going at the same rate, India will be under further pressure.
