'Rohit Sharma Is Probably Where MS Dhoni Stands' - Suniel Shetty Hails Selfless Skipper

India suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and the team was dominant throughout the tournament, registering a ten-match winning streak. Rohit Sharma was devastated after losing the final against Australia. He was a great performer for India providing a crucial start in almost every game.

Bollywood superstar Suniel Shetty puts Rohit Sharma in the same position as MS Dhoni. In a recent ANI podcast, Suniel Shetty was asked about India’s performance in the World Cup to which he praised Rohit Sharma for his selflessness throughout the tournament. He said that Rohit could’ve got his hundreds but he decided to provide India with fiery starts.

“Rohit today is probably where Dhoni stands because everything that Rohit did was selfless. I mean it was for the team. You know it is very easy to say that ‘that moment you’re out with a lakh-lakh and a half people cheering and wanting you to go and you say let me just continue it that way.”

“He could’ve stuck on and scored his hundreds also but he said let me give that team an 80-90 run start and they take off. So all of them, whether it is Rohit or Shubman or Virat or Shami or Bumrah or Kuldeep- coming back after so many years you know, being out, Jadeja. You can’t ask for a better team,” said Suniel Shetty

Rohit Sharma amassed 597 runs in 11 matches for India and ended up as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament with one century and three half-centuries to his name. He provided India with an aggressive start every time he came onto bat. While Rohit was at the crease in the final, he was not letting the run rate go below 8.00.

Suniel Shetty also praised everyone for their contribution and rated this team as the best in the World Cup. Team India was on a ten-match winning streak but failed to perform in the final and Australia were crowned the champions for a record-extending sixth time. Virat Kohli was awarded the Player of The Tournament Award for his brilliance with the bat amassing 765 runs in 11 games.
