India’s stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav has lauded Rohit Sharma the Indian skipper who led the team all the way to the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. India lost to Australia in the final as the Aussies won their sixth World Cup title.
Rohit Sharma ended as the second-highest run-getter scoring 597 runs in 11 matches at an average of 54.27 and strike rate of 125.95. He also hit 31 sixes in the tournament, the most by any batter in the World Cup.
Set for his maiden captaincy stint, Suryakumar Yadav lauded Rohit Sharma for walking the talk and leading from the front in the ICC event. Rohit was very vocal about playing with an aggressive intent and he lived up to that as the skipper of the side. His 47 off 31 balls gave India a brilliant start in the final but the rest of the batters including SKY could not capitalise on that.

Rohit Sharma Walked The Talk: Suryakumar Yadav
“He (Rohit) has set the example. It was a completely different Rohit Sharma, he walked the talk. What we talked about in team meetings he did the same thing in the ground. We are very proud of him, he led by example and hopefully we will replicate that (in the T20s),” Surya said while addressing the press conference ahead of the first T20I in Visakhapatnam.
He further spoke on the support received from the families and the fans that has allowed the team to move forward after the disappointing defeat in the final.
“Obviously, a little disappointing but when you look back at the journey it was a great campaign. All of India and our families were proud about the way everyone displayed their talent on the ground. We played a positive brand of cricket throughout the tournament. We can be very proud of that,” said SKY further.
The BCCI selection committee has named an 18-member squad for the five-match T20I series with the senior players rested. It is an opportunity for all the players selected in the squad to perform in this series and stake a claim for selection in next year’s T20 World Cup squad.
The first of the five-match T20I series will be played in Vizag on November 23 from 7 pm IST. The series ends with the fifth T20I in Bengaluru on December 3.
