Former South African cricketer Mark Boucher lauded Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson for his outstanding performance during the first T20I match. Mark Boucher expressed surprise that Sanju Samson hasn’t played more regularly for India and questioned the selectors for not backing him earlier.
The Kerala-born cricketer made his debut for India in 2015. However, he was given a long rope in the Indian team under captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir's tenure. Samson opened the innings during the T20I series against Bangladesh, where he scored his maiden T20I century.
Sanju Samson Has Not Played More Games For India - Sanju Samson
During the mid-innings break, Mark Boucher said that Sanju Samson would become a regular member of the India T20I team following his impressive performance. Boucher also criticized South Africa’s decision to use spinners early in the innings, adding that pacers would have been a better choice.
"I think South Africa got their bowling combinations really wrong. They gave the ball to spinners early on. If you are an Indian batters, who would you rather face at the start, a spinner or a pacer. But Samson, what a player. To me it is quite surprising that he has not played more games for India and this might be what he needs, just a kick on with a couple of good innings and you can see how good he is to watch," Boucher said on Jio Cinema on Friday.
