Rohit Sharma led India to their second T20 World Cup win as India beat South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados on Saturday. In the process, he became the only player to win the title as a player and a captain.
India won the first T20 World Cup title in 2007 which was the inaugural edition of the tournament. They won the second title 17 years later under Rohit's captaincy. Previously India lost the 2014 T20 World Cup final against Sri Lanka under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
MSD wished the Indian team their mammoth achievement on Saturday. The captain who first won a T20 World Cup title for India sent his best wishes to Rohit Sharma and the Indian team on their remarkable achievement.

Dhoni who generally does not get overawed by emotions could not control his emotions this time around as the pure joy and satisfaction he felt was seen in the words he used to express himself.
Dhoni was the mentor of the Indian T20I squad in 2021 when India faced a league-stage exit after defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand. From there on to see India finally win an ICC title almost an age later, Dhoni was part of the journey as well.
“Dhoni used to be a fabulous player. He did a lot for us and the country. I felt good that he appreciated us,” Rohit said after the match to the reporters on the ground.

The Indian skipper thanked a lot of players for their T20 World Cup win. From MS Dhoni to Rahul Draviid, Rohit ensured that he thanked everyone who worked hard behind India's recent success.
India finally won an ICC title after 11 years. They won a T20 World Cup title for the first time in 17 years after coming very close in 2014 and 2022. In between, India lost the T20 World Cup 2022 final, the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final, and the 2023 ODI World Cup final under Rohit.
Under Virat India also had a few heartbreaks as they lost the 2017 Champions Trophy, the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final and they faced an early exit in the T20 World Cup 2021. Both Virat and Rohit announced their retirement from T20Is after India's T20 World Cup win.
Virat Kohli was the first to confirm it in his post-match interaction with Harsha Bhogle, Rohit Sharma followed up in his post-match press conference.
"Whenever I feel inside what is right, I try and do that that has been my nature when I captained the team as well. What I feel inside is what I want to do. I don't think a lot about the past and future...I didn't think that I would retire from T20 but such a situation came and I thought it was the perfect situation for me. Nothing better than winning the cup and saying goodbye," Rohit said on his T20I retirement.
