Rohit Sharma surpasses Eoin Morgan as he shatters multiple records after his brutal fifty against Sri Lanka in 1st ODI

India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma had a sensational outing with the bat in the ongoing first ODI against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The first game of the series between the teams is taking place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday.
Rohit Sharma, who played his first game after the T20 World Cup 2024 final, made sure that he continued from where he left off in the last ODI game that he played. The opening batter in the chase of 230 runs went after the bowlers right from the start and made sure he took his team off to a flying start on a tough pitch.
Rohit Sharma opened his account with a six on the second ball of the innings and after that, it was no looking back for him. The India captain oozed his class with the bat as he seemed to be batting on a different surface, smashing bowlers all over the park.
Rohit Sharma didn't put a foot wrong till the time he was batting. The opening batter brought up his half-century inside to the power play. He brought up his fifty in just 33 balls and assured that his side maximized the first 10 overs with the bat.
Rohit Sharma ended with an innings of 58 runs off 47 balls. The opening batter batted with a strike rate of over 123 and also slammed 7 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. He added 75 runs opening partnership with Shubman Gill.
With his innings, Rohit Sharma shattered multiple records with the bat. The opening batter crossed 15,000 international runs as an opener. He became the tenth opener to do so and the third Indian after Virender Sehwag (16,119) and Sachin Tendulkar (15,335) to achieve the feat. The record stands with Sanath Jayasuriya, who has scored 19,298.
Rohit Sharma also equaled Sachin Tendulkar in terms of most scores of 50 and above by an Indian opener in international cricket across formats. The opening batter has 120 fifty-plus scores now and is now behind Graeme Smith (125), Desmond Haynes (131), Sanath Jayasuriya (136), Chris Gayle (144) and David Warner (146).

Not only this, Rohit Sharma also shattered another few records. The India captain went past 1000 fours in ODI cricket. His tally now stands at 1001. He became the 13th player to hit over 1000 fours and the fifth Indian to achieve the feat.
The current India captain now has Sourav Ganguly (1122), Virender Sehwag (1132), Virat Kohli (1294), and Sachin Tendulkar (2016) ahead of him in the list of most fours by the India Batter in the history of the 50-over Cricket.
Rohit Sharma also surpassed Eoin Morgan as the captain with the most sixes across all formats. India's captain has now hit 234 maximums while captaining across formats. With the kind of performance that he has been putting, the number is only expected to rise.
