Following the match, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were forced to discuss their participation in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, but they decided to sidestep the question.
Rohit and Virat delivered a memorable farewell performance in Australia to remain in contention for the 2027 World Cup. The duo added an unbeaten 168-run partnership for the second wicket, helping the Men in Blue avoid a series whitewash while thrilling the packed Sydney crowd with a batting masterclass.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Hint At ICC ODI World Cup 2027 Participation
After India’s win, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli participated in a joint post-match interview. Adam Gilchrist, hosting alongside Ravi Shastri, wished the duo luck in their pursuit of the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, hoping for a discussion on the matter.
“I think, for the Australian crowds and audiences, we thank you. It’s been a real pleasure to have you on our shores. We wish you all the best in the pursuit of the 2027 World Cup.”
However, the duo didn't discuss it and just thanked him and the Australian crowd for their support. Neither Kohli nor Rohit directly answered the question. The two shared a knowing grin before walking off, leaving fans guessing about their future plans.

Virat Kohli expressed gratitude to the Australian fans. Kohli stated that he and Rohit Sharma enjoyed playing in front of large crowds and had some of their best performances there.
“We want to say thank you as well. I mean, we’ve loved coming to this country and playing in front of such big crowds. And yeah, we’ve played some of our best cricket here as well. So, thank you very much for welcoming us so well. You guys are brilliant. We’ve never felt short of support here,” Kohli said.
India Secured 9 Wicket Victory Over Australia in Sydney
India dominated Australia by nine wickets in the third ODI at Sydney. Rohit Sharma smashed his 33rd ODI century, scoring 121 runs off 125 balls. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 74 off 81 balls, bouncing back from two successive ducks earlier in the series.
Rohit and Shubman Gill (24) added a 69-run opening stand. Following Gill’s dismissal, Rohit added an unbroken 168-run partnership with Kohli to chase down the target in 38.3 overs with 69 balls remaining.
Rohit secured both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. The 38-year-old batter finished the three-match series with 202 runs at an average of 101, including a century and a half-century.
The duo silenced critics who doubted their performances. Rohit will turn 39 in six months, while Kohli turns 38 next month. They will be hoping to continue their form till the ICC ODI World Cup 2027.
