Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli create history as they complete 7500 partnership runs for Team India

Team India, on Saturday (June 22), beat Bangladesh by 50 runs in their Super 8 game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The win has put India in a strong position to qualify for the semifinal.

The Men in Blue's place in the semifinal could be confirmed on Sunday (June 23) if Australia beat Afghanistan. India thoroughly dominated the contest against Bangladesh to extend their unbeaten run in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup.

Asked to bat first, India finished their innings on 196 for 5 to post their highest total of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya starred with the bat for India, scoring an unbeaten 50 off 27 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes.

In reply, Bangladesh finished their innings on 146 for 8. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored for his team, scoring 40 runs. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah picked up 2 wickets apiece. 

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma touch 7500-run mark:

While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could not score big in the game, they have managed to improve their record in the list of most successful partnerships for India.  The current India captain and his predecessor have become only the fourth Indian pair to touch the 7500-run mark in international cricket.

The first Indian pair to achieve the feat is the legendary duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. They scored a total of 12400 runs together for the team in international cricket. Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are second in the list with 11037 runs while Ganguly and Dravid are third with 7626 runs.

Meanwhile, Team India will be taking on Australia in their final Super 8 game. The game is scheduled to take place on Monday (June 24). Barring the game against Canada that was abandoned, India have won all of their games in the competition so far and will be looking to extend their winning run against Australia as well. Team India have not won the T20 World Cup since 2007 and will be desperate to go all the way this year.
