Former Indian player Saba Karim said that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is short of time for back to back World Cup events. Rohit was recently named the Test captain of the Indian team which means the Mumbai player will lead India in all three formats.

Recently, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar were ruled out of the Sri Lanka T20I series after suffering a hairline fracture and quadriceps injury.

Rohit himself was ruled out of the South Africa tour owing to a hamstring injury and was under rehabilitation along with Ravindra Jadeja, who had a right forearm injury during the first Test match against New Zealand in Kanpur. Both Rohit and Jadeja are completely fit and are part of India’s T20I and Test squad for the Sri Lanka home series.

Ahead of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Rohit admitted that the Indian team is seeing a lot of injuries and the board is working on managing the workload of the players.

Karim feels that Rohit wants his players to remain fit as India will be playing in two major events in two years. The former Indian player wants the team management to select suitable players for certain positions in the team.

“Rohit Sharma’s biggest targets are the T20 World Cup this year and the 50-over World Cup in 2023. He does not have much time and he wants players to perform up to expectations and stay fit.

“It seems like he feels it is important to address this fitness issue. Often uncomfortable questions are not asked in Indian cricket,” Karim said on Khelneeti Podcast.

“Solutions need to be found for these problems, the right players need to be picked and backed. This is Rohit Sharma’s role. His style of addressing the issue may be different, but the intention is right,” he added.

India will play against Sri Lanka in the first T20 International on Thursday at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
