Rohit Sharma Reveals How He Felt After Getting Snubbed For The 2011 ODI World Cup

Indian opener Rohit Sharma has stated that he was completely dejected after missing out on the Indian squad that played the 2011 ODI World Cup at home. The Indian team under MS Dhoni went on to win the tournament, thereby ending India’s wait for the coveted trophy after 28 years.
Dinesh Karthik is currently part of Sky Sports’ broadcasting team and he conducted his first interview with Rohit Sharma recently. It was a casual conversation where Rohit opened up on his journey, and particularly how he came back to the side after the disappointing exclusion.
“I was so desperate to get into the team and do well and I know the sort of team we had that time, we had the best chance of winning the WC, so I wanted to be a part of that WC and if I get an opportunity, try and make a difference.”

“Down the line, I want to blame myself and not anyone. Maybe I didn’t have a great run before the tournament and that kind of setback was needed to improve and understand my game better,” the Mumbai batsman stated.

At the time, Indian opening slots were filled by the legendary batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. Although Rohit was slowly rising up the ranks, he hadn’t gained a foothold in the team. The exclusion from the World Cup squad helped in certain ways, as per Rohit.
Rohit Sharma is part of the Indian team across all three formats now. He has played two World Cups since, scoring five monumental hundreds in the 2019 ODI World Cup where India reached the semifinals.
