The India national cricket team secured a memorable seven-wicket win against the Bangladesh national cricket team in the second and final Test. Following the victory in Kanpur, the Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, achieved a feat that no other team has achieved in the 147-year history of Test cricket.
Just 35 overs were played in the first three days due to bad weather. A draw was the most realistic outcome, but India excited the Kanpur crowd and fans nationwide with their approach in the last two days. They bowled Bangladesh out for 233 runs in just a session and a half on the fourth day of the match.
The home team broke several records before declaring their first innings at 285/9 in less than 35 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 72 runs off 51 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes. Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, who scored 23 runs, added a 55-run stand that lasted just 3.5 overs on the fourth day of the match.
The middle-order batters continued the aggressive approach against Bangladesh bowlers. Shubman Gill (39), Virat Kohli (47), and KL Rahul (68) chipped in with crucial contributions with the bat. The Indian team scored at a run rate of 8.22, making it the fastest Test innings by a team for a score above 200.
India entered Day 5 after dismissing two Bangladesh players on Day 4. They bowled Bangladesh out for just 146 runs and chased down the 95-run target by the 18th over with seven wickets in hand. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer for the team with 51 runs off 45 balls, including 8 fours and a six.
Rohit Sharma's India Achieves Rare Feat In Test Cricket
India scored a run rate of 7.36 across both innings, setting a new record for the highest run rate ever achieved in Test history. This is the first instance of any team scoring at a run rate over 7 in both innings. The previous record was held by South Africa, who scored at a combined run rate of 6.80 in 2005.
Virat Kohli remained not out with 29 runs, and Rishabh Pant scored the winning runs. India completed a 2-0 series victory over Bangladesh. This win has boosted India's chance to reach the final of the World Test Championship. India will next take on New Zealand in a three-match Test series at home.
