Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal stormed back into his beast mode in style during the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) IPL 2024 clash in Jaipur on Monday, April 22.
Jaiswal made a stunning comeback to form on Monday with an unbeaten century, guiding the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a resounding nine-wicket win in match No. 38 of the ongoing IPL 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Cricket Stadium in Jaipur.
This was Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) seventh win this season as they strengthened their position in the IPL 2024 points table, leading the chart with 14 points from the 8 matches that they played so far in the tournament. Meanwhile, Sandeep Sharma and Yashasvi were the heroes of the RR against MI.
Yashasvi Jaiswal made a stunning comeback to his form
Jaiswal's stellar performance was followed by his recent struggles with scores of 24, 5, 10, 0, 24, 39, and 19 earlier in the ongoing IPL 2024. His dip in form had raised questions, especially considering his remarkable Test series against England earlier in the year.
However, the left-handed batter managed to give the world a powerful reminder of his capabilities with his amazing knock against MI. The RR opener scored his century in just 59 deliveries, as he finished his innings with 104* off 60 balls laced with 9 fours and 7 sixes, helping the Royals successfully chase down the target of 180 runs in 18.4 overs against Mumbai in Jaipur.
Jaiswal's splendid century against the Mumbai Indians (MI) marked his second IPL century, with his first also coming against the five-time IPL champions. This achievement places him among an elite group of players who have scored more than one hundred against a single team in the IPL.
Yashasvi Jaiswal achieves a big feat during the RR vs MI game
The Indian opener became the only sixth player to have smashed two centuries against a single opponent in the IPL-MI. At the age of just 22 years, Jaiswal joins the elite list of players featuring KL Rahul at the top of the chart with three centuries against the MI. Other notable names on this list are Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, David Warner, and Jos Buttler.
Chris Gayle smashed two IPL centuries against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), Virat Kohli hit against the now defunct Gujarat Lions, David Warner hammered against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Jos Buttler smashed two centuries against both the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and KKR. Interestingly, Jaiswal's RR teammate, Jos Buttler, has achieved the feat of scoring two centuries against two different oppositions each.
Moreover, Jaiswal's achievement against the MI holds additional significance, as he becomes the first player in IPL history to notch two centuries before reaching the age of 23, which highlights his exceptional talent and potential for future success.
Notably, the RR will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing IPL 2024 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 27. Lucknow is currently ranked 5th in the points table.
