Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Trent Boult was yet again amongst the wickets in the first over of the game. He provided his team with the early breakthrough in the ongoing game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
After posting a total of just 144 runs on the board, Rajasthan Royals were off to a great start with the ball, thanks to Trent Boult. The fast bowler got hit for a four by Prabhsimran Singh but he made sure that he took the revenge brilliantly and removed the batter.
On the 4th ball of the 1st innings, Trent Boult bowled a short ball around off to which Prabhsimran Singh tried to swing away. He didn't get the proper connection and ended up getting the top edge which flew towards the short third man at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Yuzvendra Chahal, who was stationed there, peddled back and took a brilliant reverse cup catch. With the way, the leg-spinner moved, it seemed he was nervous because he was tremling a bit before taking it but somehow managed to take it.
As the ball went up, Trent Boult too didn't look confident, considering Yuzvendra Chahal's history of dropping catches. However, as the catch was taken, the fast bowler had a relieved reaction and the video of the incident went viral.
Prabhsimran Singh managed just 6 runs off 4 balls. This was the 6th time Trent Boult picked a wicket in the first over of the innings in the ongoing IPL. Overall, in the IPL 2024, he has bowled 13 first overs and has claimed 6 wickets at an average of 10.33 and a strike rate of 13. He also has an economy of 4.77 in the first overs.
Notably, no other bowler other than Trent Boult has picked more than three wickets in the first over this season. The fast bowled three overs in the game and returned with the figures of 1/27. But his efforts went in vain as Rajasthan Royals lost the game by 5 wickets.
We needed a few more runs - Sanju Samson after the loss to PBKS
Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson admitted that they were 10-15 runs short with the ball and also talked about losing 4 games on the trot. He stated that they need to accept their failures and added that they need to show character going ahead. He explained:
"We needed a few more runs. I think we were 10-15 runs short. It was a 160 kind of wicket. We would have easily got more than 160 (had we played better), that's where we lost the game. Would have been nice to have one more bowling option. I am getting used to five quality bowlers.
"We have to sit back and accept that we are going through failures, have lost four games on the trot. Got to find out what's not working out for us as a team. Somebody needs to step up, we have so many match-winners in the team. This is the time we need to show character," he concluded.
