RR vs RCB: “It's Not Criticism But It is Giving Him That Belief To Go On” - Michael Vaughan On Virat Kohli Receiving Flak For His Strike Rate In IPL 2023

Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan opened up about Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli facing criticism for his strike rate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that the right-hander can easily pump that up and if he was in his shoes he would’ve been looking at young players, who are chasing him.

Virat Kohli has been going through red-hot form in the IPL 2023. The batter has been smashing runs consistently and is helping his team in getting the fiery starts. It’s fair to say that he has played a crucial role in the team’s win this season and will be extremely crucial going ahead into the tournament.

Michael Vaughan said that people are targeting Virat Kohli because he is good. He added that the criticism will give him the belief to go on. While speaking on Cricbuzz, he said:

“People have been talking about Kohli’s strike rate as well and has been targetting him because he is that good. He can easily pump up his strike rate. It’s not criticism but it is giving him that belief to go on. If I was him I would have been looking at some of the youngers players like Gill and say, ‘wait a minute, they are chasing me down the rails.”

Michael Vaughan further went on to highlight KL Rahul’s strike rate as well. He said that although he’s a good player in Tests and ODIs, there’s a lot of doubt about his place in T20s. He added:

“In Tests, he is a beautiful player. I have no doubts about him in ODIs. But in T20 cricket in this era I do have a doubt about him. I think he can take more risks. A lot of Indian players take a lot of balls to get in. But in modern cricket you almost got to go because now you have a batting line-up to almost 9 or 10 and in some cases even 11.”

KL Rahul notably has been under the firing line for his strike rate in the IPL. He has played out two maiden overs in the league and is also struggling to get going. The batter has scored runs at a strike rate of just over 119.
