Australia allrounder Marcus Stoinis has said he and his teammates are expecting Mitchell Starc to deliver for the team once again in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.

Australia will be looking to reclaim the World Cup trophy they lost to England in 2019. The team from Down Under is the most successful team in the history of the competition and will be eyeing a record-extending sixth World Cup this year. No other team has managed to win the World Cup more than twice while Australia have done it five times including thrice in a row.

The Pat Cummins-led side will be one of the favorites to win the upcoming World Cup. Australia proved their World Cup credentials earlier this year by beating India in the three-match ODI series in their own backyard. They are currently the top-ranked ODI team in the world and have one of the strongest teams for the upcoming World Cup.

Marcus Stoinis on Mitchell Starc’s role:

One of Australia’s key players for the World Cup will be Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis has revealed that the team is expecting a lot from the left-arm pacer. Very few bowlers have managed to make a mark on the ODI World Cup as Mitchell Starc has done so far. No active cricket has more wickets than him in the World Cup.

Overall, Mitchell Starc is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the competition. With a stunning average of 14.81 and a strike rate of 19.1, the pacer has picked up 49 wickets in just 18 World Cup games so far. He was the highest wicket-taker in the last two editions of the World Cup, taking 22 and a record 27 wickets in 2015 and 2019 respectively.

“I still remember and can actually visualise Mitch Starc getting Brendon McCullum out in Melbourne in the 2015 World Cup final. His white-ball, 50-overs record is phenomenal, and we as a team are expecting him to once again excel in this World Cup,” Marcus Stoinis told RevSportz.

“When you can get the ball to move at speed, any batter will struggle. And Starc also has a lethal yorker. That’s not easy to negotiate for anyone, however good you are,” he added.

The World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 5 while Australia will open their campaign against hosts Team India on October 8 in Chennai.
