Sunrisers Eastern Cape players Sisanda Magala and Craig Overton have been ruled out of the second season of Cricket South Africa’s SA20 league. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape team announced on their official social media handle on Monday, January 8.

The Cape team clinched the SA20 championship in the inaugural edition by defeating the Pretoria Capitals in the final with a four-wicket victory. The Aiden Markram-led team secured the third position with a record of four wins and five losses in the league-stage matches.

The Gqeberha-based franchise triumphed over the Joburg Super Kings by 14 runs in the semi-finals of the previous edition of. The team went on to beat the Pretoria Capitals in a low-scoring encounter. Spinner Roelof van der Merwe earned ‘Player of the Match’ for his 4/31.

Sisanda Magala & Craig Overton Are Ruled Out For The Season – Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Sunrisers Eastern Cape took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce that Sisanda Magala and Craig Overton have been ruled out of the upcoming season due to respective injuries. The team expressed their wishes for a speedy recovery for Magala and Overton.

“Update: Sisanda Magala & Craig Overton are ruled out for the season due to injuries. We wish them a speedy recovery,” wrote the caption.

Medium pacer Sisanda Magala, who was the second-highest wicket-taker for the Cape in the previous edition, secured 14 wickets in 12 matches with an average of 24. All-rounder Patrick Kruger has been named as the replacement for the injured Magala in the squad.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape To Kick Off Their Campaign In SA20 On January 10

The second edition of the T20 tournament is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, January 10. Sunrisers Eastern Cape will face off against the Joburg Super Kings in the opening match at their home ground, St. George’s Park in Gqeberha.

Skipper Aiden Markram (366) was the third-highest run-getter of the first season and also claimed 11 wickets. Markram was named Player of the Series for his remarkable all-round efforts. Roelof van der Merwe emerged as the leading wicket-taker for the Cape team.

David Malan, England’s leading run scorer in the ODI World Cup, will strengthen the batting line-up, while Tristan Stubbs and Sarel Ervay will strengthen the middle order. The team has quality all-rounders like Marco Janssen, veteran Liam Dawson, and Tom Abel.

SA20 marks the first T20 league outside India with IPL owners for all six local franchises.
