Saba Karim Feels Rahul Dravid's Role As Coach Will Be Very Important Amid Speculations Of Rift In Indian Cricket

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim feels that Rahul Dravid will have an important role to play as India head coach after the recent rifts in Indian cricket. Saba Karim’s comments came after some off-field turmoils in Indian cricket came to the public.

Recently, Virat Kohli was removed as ODI skipper by BCCI. The Indian Test skipper Kohli mentioned that he was not informed about the development in advance and came to know about the decision just one and a half hours before the meeting with BCCI. In another matter, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed in a recent interview that he received little backing during the Kohli-Shastri era.

Rahul Dravid’s Role Will Be Very Important: Saba Karim

While speaking on his Youtube Channel, Saba Karim said that it is very difficult to maintain a healthy environment when such things come out. Saba Karim also said that Rahul Dravid’s role as head coach will be very important for Indian cricket.

“Very difficult to maintain a healthy team environment when such things come out (Ashwin’s statement on Shastri). Rahul Dravid’s role will be very important. Captain shouldn’t feel under pressure because of such developments.” Saba Karim said.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed in a recent interview with ESPNcricinfo that he received little backing during Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India head coach. During India’s tour of Australia in 2019, Kuldeep Yadav replaced injured Ashwin in the Sydney Test and scalped a five-wicket haul in the match.

The then Indian coach Ravi Shastri had called Kuldeep Yadav as India’s no.1 spinner in overseas conditions in a press conference. Ashwin said that he felt crushed at that moment.

“I hold Ravi bhai in high esteem. We all do. In that moment, though, I felt crushed. Absolutely crushed. We all talk about how important it is to enjoy your team-mates’ success. And I was happy for Kuldeep. I have not been able to get a five-for but he has a five-for in Australia.

“I know how big it is. Even when I have bowled well [at other times], I haven’t ended up with a five-for. So I am genuinely happy for him. And it’s an extremely happy occasion, to win in Australia,” Ashwin said in the interview.

Virat Kohli stepped down from T20I captaincy after ICC T20 World Cup 2021. However, BCCI also removed him as ODI skipper as the board wanted to have the same skipper for the limited-overs format.

Rohit Sharma is the new white-ball captain for India. Moreover, Ravi Shastri also stepped down as India’s head coach after T20 World Cup 2021. BCCI then appointed Rahul Dravid as India’s new head coach.
