India Women’s Under-19 team created history by winning the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in South Africa on Sunday, January 29. The Shafali Verma-led team has received appreciation from all over the country for their performance on the cricket field. Legendary player Sachin Tendulkar and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials will felicitate the champion team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Team India beat England comprehensively by seven wickets in the final match. Indian bowlers bundled out the opposition team for just 68 runs in 17.1 overs. Pacer Titas bowled a brilliant spell, taking two wickets and conceding just six runs in his four overs. Spinners Parshavi Chopra and Archana Devi also bowled well and picked up two wickets each. The Men in Blue comfortably chased down the target with six overs to spare.

The Young Cricketers Have Made India Proud – Jay Shah

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced on Monday that Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and the board will felicitate the World Cup-winning India U19 women’s team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 1. The felicitation ceremony will be held before the third and final T20I between India and New Zealand at the same venue.

“It is with great delight I share that Bharat Ratna Shri @sachin_rt and @BCCI Office Bearers will felicitate the victorious India U19 team on Feb 1st in Narendra Modi Stadium at 6:30 PM IST. The young cricketers have made India proud and we will honour their achievements,” Jay Shah wrote on Twitter.

The BCCI president and 1983 World Cup-winning cricketer, Roger Binny, praised the India U-19 women’s team for their title win and said they played with a fearless approach in the tournament.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate the India U-19 Women’s team for their title glory at the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup. The team played with a fearless approach and created history by winning the coveted trophy. This was the inaugural edition of the tournament and our team’s achievement has set a benchmark to inspire the upcoming cricketers in the country,” Binny said.
