Sachin Tendulkar Credits Ravi Shastri For Keeping The Players In The Right Frame Of Mind

Former Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has credited head coach Ravi Shastri for keeping the players in the right frame of mind. India embarks on a crucial tour of England, where they will start with the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand, followed by five Tests against the Englishmen. Sachin Tendulkar feels that Ravi Shastri has done an outstanding job of creating a good atmosphere.

India’s incredible series win in Australia came on the back of one of the outstanding comebacks as a severely undermanned visiting side beat the hosts down under to claim their second consecutive series win. They returned home to beat England after losing the first Test convincingly and sealed their spot in the ICC World Test Championship final. New Zealand will meet India in the tournament decider on the 18th of June in Southampton.

Sachin Tendulkar believes that at the highest level, all the players know the basics; however, it is the coach’s job to keep the players in the right frame of mind. The 48-year old underlined that if a coach remains calm in critical moments, the same rubs on the side. Tendulkar highlighted that during crunch moments, Ravi has been able to take the team through successfully.

“At this level everyone knows how to defend or drive, bowlers know how to bowl outswingers or inswingers. But to actually keep them in the right frame of my mind is the coach’s job. There is nothing better than having a good atmosphere in the dressing room during critical moments. In those crunch moments, if the coach remains calm, a lot of problems go away and that is what Ravi has been able to do. I would also say you have to be stern with players when needed but how you talk to them at those moments is also very important. And he has been able to do that successfully,” Tendulkar said as quoted by India Today.

Gary Kirsten did not get angry at all: Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar recalled when India and New Zealand played a Test in Napier and the hosts batted big to enforce a follow-on, with two days remaining. Instead of getting angry, the 200-Test veteran revealed that Gary Kirsten motivated them to show what they are made of. India went on to bat for two days and draw the Test.

“We were playing against New Zealand in Napier and they had made a big score in the first innings. We also made a big score but theirs was huge and we were made to follow on with almost two days remaining in the Test. Gary Kirsten did not get angry at all, he came into the dressing room and told us that this was the time to show what we were made of. Let’s go out and bat for two days. And we batted for two days and drew the Test,” he added.
