Sachin Tendulkar officially denies being in the race for the BCCI Presidentship
Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was reported to be in the race for a position in the BCCI. Some social media speculations claimed that he might be planning to fill the void for the BCCI president.
However, ruling out all such possibilities, Tendulkar has denied the claims. The official statement from SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd read:
"It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations."
How was Sachin Tendulkar's name associated with the BCCI role?
According to the BCCI's rules, once in three years, the 37-member body of the Cricket governing association goes on to elect a new set of office bearers and one from among themselves to the Apex Council for a term of three years.
As per these former cricketers, like Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny, they were appointed for their terms, and this time Binny's term came to an end. With the BCCI Annual General Meeting scheduled for the 28th of September, several speculations have taken over social media.
The rumour has been that the BCCI is inclined towards one of the former Indian cricketers. After this claim, the name of former legend Sachin Tendulkar was brought up; however, most of the BCCI members remained clueless about any such developments.
Unlike before 2013, when the BCCI was governed by seasoned administrators, Ganguly and Binny marked the cause for the change in the trend, and if not Sachin Tendulkar, then it is highly likely that any other former cricketer might be seen taking up the role.
Sachin Tendulkar has never shown an inclination towards Coaching or Administrative roles in Cricket
The legendary Indian cricketer has served Indian cricket for 24 long years since his debut, but when he finally announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket, he barred himself from taking up any other role in franchises as well as the Indian team.
Tendulkar is often seen as the icon of the Mumbai Indians; however, he has not taken up coaching roles as of yet. Nor has he shown inclination towards cricket administration, but he has often made stints as a commentator and has also featured for India in some charity matches.
But he has kept himself distant from any form of competitive cricket and seemingly is looking forward to not budging from his initial plans.
