Former legendary spinner Anil  Kumble is the leading wicket-taker of India in the Test format with 619 wickets & 334 in ODIs. Anil Kumble wasn’t a great turner of the ball but he bowled impeccable lines & lengths. During the latter part of his career, he was also appointed as the skipper of the Indian Cricket Team.

Muttiah Muralitharan, the shrewd off-spinner was the nightmare for the spinners where he is the leading wicket-taker in both Tests & ODIs with 800 wickets in Tests & 534 in ODIs. The peculiarity of Muralitharan was that he foxed the bowlers with his variations and didn’t panic even when he was taken to the cleaners.

Abdur Rehman on Indian Spinners

Abdur Rehman was seen interacting with the Nadir Ali podcast and was asked about Indian spinners.

“In their condition, all pitches turn. When there is a flat pitch, then they get exposed on occasions. Jadeja was a poor bowler when he came in but under MS Dhoni captaincy he improved so much that he is world no. 1. In all formats, he is doing well.

“Chahal can be hit easily. He is not a big turner of the ball, there is no force. It does not seem like he can turn red-ball cricket, maybe in shorter formats he can be successful. My point of view is that he is not lambe race ka ghoda,” said Abdur Rehman.

Abdur Rehman on Anil Kumble

Besides, Abdur Rehman was asked about Anil Kumble and it was when he made a massive statement.

“I think he would have got hit if he was bowling now. Because he was not a big turner of the ball. It used to skid. In modern-day cricket, the pace with which it is played, the line and length that he used to have he would have got hit,” said Abdur Rehman.

“Even Muttiah Muralitharan would have been hit. During his time also he got hit. But Saeed Ajmal would not have got hit now because of the variety he had,” he added.
