Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won a last-ball thriller against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the first double header of the IPL 2026. Rishabh Pant took LSG over the line in the second last ball after 1 required of the two balls, and the Southpaw struck a boundary.

This was LSG’s first win in the IPL 2026 as they chased down the total of 157 with five wickets in hand. After the win, the LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka, who is known for being highly passionate about his team, placed his palm over his chest and was on the verge of tears. After the game, Sanjiv Goenka was seen hugging Pant on the ground and speaking briefly with him.

Sanjiv Goenka was in tears

Following LSG's loss against the Delhi Capitals earlier this week, Sanjiv Goenka was spotted having an intense conversation with Pant and head coach Justin Langer. This interaction once again raised many eyebrows, with the LSG owner taking fire. As Sanjiv Goenka was previously criticised for having blasted KL Rahul on camera.

However, a day later, LSG's social media staff shared a video of the same occurrence, stating that not everyone has the entire picture. The brief video clip showed Pant, Sanjiv Goenka, and Langer laughing and having a conversation about the LSG vs DC game.

Mohammed Shami the hero for LSG

Coming to the match, LSG won the toss and elected to field first, and they were in complete control from the first over. Mohammed Shami showcased his experience and picked the wicket of Abhishek Sharma in his first over. In the second over, he dismissed the dangerous Travis Head. SRH were down to 26/4 at one stage.

After that, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen stitched a 100 partnership between them off 57 balls. Both batters scoring half ceturies respectively, as the former scored 56 and the latter scored 62 runs and helped the Orange Army to score 156/9.

Rishabh Pant praised Mohammed Shami

Coming out to chase LSG opener Mitchell Marsh went back early, and Aiden Markram took the charge and scored 45 off 27 balls against his former franchise. However, the star of the run-chase was Rishabh Pant, as the wickets kept falling from other ends, but he was there till the very end and took his team home.

Rishabh Pant went unbeaten on the score of 68 off 50 deliveries; however, Mohammed Shami was named as the player of the match for his exceptional bowling spell of 9/2 in four overs. He also bowled the most dot balls in the match. Shami’s return to form will be a crucial factor for the side.

After the match, Rishabh Pant said that bowlers deserved appreciation as they were the ones who set up the game, especially while bowling first.

He added that players like Shami, Avesh Khan, and Rathi had all contributed well, while also highlighting Siddharth’s performance, mentioning that the team had decided he would step up on that ground, and he delivered effectively. LSG will next face the Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday.
