The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declares the full squad for India’s upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, starting on July 23. India will tour Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series with a bunch of emerging cricketers, including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

For the series, the selectors have made multiple interesting choices to decorate the team. Resting some of the regular players of the format, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel has provided an opportunity to Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh, and some other talents. Rinku Singh makes his return to the team after missing out on the UK tour.

Selectors make surprising picks for the India vs Zimbabwe Series

Along with the captain Shreyas Iyer and vice-captain Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dude, and Varun Chakravarthy are the experienced candidates who are selected for the series.

The exclusion of Sanju Samson is among the notable decisions taken by the selectors, while the 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named for the series. Samson has been dropped from the Zimbabwe tour amid his recent bad patch with the bad.

The exclusion of Sanju Samson arises amid his poor form

Against Ireland in two matches and one match against England, Samson, the best player of the 2026 T20 World Cup tournament, failed to impress the management, as in all of the three games, the keeper-batter was dismissed cheaply. From the current T20I team, which is in England, Ravi Bishnoi is another player who has been dropped significantly.

The snub of the spinner came right after his expensive spell against England in Manchester. The match, which the Men in Blue could have claimed easily, was lost and allowed the host to take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing 5-match T20I series. Against a set Jacob Bethell, Bishnoi leaked 29 runs in the death overs.

Suryansh Shedge, another Punjab Kings batter who impressively played for the India A cricket team, has been named in the team. Prabhsimran Singh will join the team as a backup keeper-batter and an opener. For the IPL team Punjab Kings and the national team A side, Prabhsimran Singh played as an opener.

A bunch of young talents in the bowling pack

Experienced pacer Arshdeep Singh has also been dropped from the team. The pace bowling line-up will be carried by a bunch of youngsters. Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, and Mayank Yadav are seamers who received their national team call-up for the T20I.

For the spin bowling attack, the onus will be on Harsh Dubey and Varun Chakaravarthy. For the all-round department, there are Shivam Dube and Suryansh Shedge.

India’s squad for Zimbabwe: Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Rinku Singh, Harsh Dubey, Varun Chakaravarthy, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh (WK).
