Team India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is set to continue with Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the IPL 2026 season, despite recent speculation about him joining Chennai Super Kings (CSK). According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the franchise has no plans to trade Samson or any other player at this stage.

The IPL trade window has sparked intense speculation among fans, with some rumors gaining significant attention. Sanju Samson has been one of the most talked-about names during the off-season. He has been linked with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and CSK since the conclusion of the IPL 2025 season.

“RR have decided not to trade Samson or any of their players for now. Samson is very much part of the Royals set-up and the undisputed captain of the team,” a source said on Tuesday.

In July, it was reported that five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings were eyeing Sanju Samson for the 2026 season. Samson faced injury setbacks during IPL 2025, which led to Riyan Parag temporarily taking over captaincy duties at Rajasthan Royals.

Sanju Samson Struggled with Form and Fitness During IPL 2025

Sanju Samson endured a challenging IPL 2025 season due to injuries and disappointing form. He sustained a right index finger fracture during a T20I series against England earlier in the year, which required surgery and forced him to miss a few games during the IPL.

The batter played as an impact substitute in a few matches. Samson managed only 285 runs across nine games at an average of 35.63, including just one half-century. Rajasthan Royals also struggled during the season, finishing ninth in the points table.

Samson later suffered a side strain, which further limited his availability. During his absence, Riyan Parag led the team. His below-par season triggered speculation about a potential trade ahead of IPL 2026.

CSK Ended Disappointing IPL 2025 Campaign at the Bottom

Chennai Super Kings had a tough run in IPL 2025, finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins from 14 matches. The team struggled throughout the season due to injuries and inconsistent performances.

A major setback came when skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out midway through the campaign. In Gaikwad's absence, MS Dhoni returned as captain, but even his leadership couldn’t revive CSK’s form. Despite Dhoni’s experience, the team ended the season with just eight points.

Dhoni confirmed that Gaikwad will return to lead the side in the next edition. The franchise is planning to address its shortcomings and rebuild. With five IPL titles to their name, CSK will aim for a strong comeback in 2026.
