Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has reckoned that wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has failed to justify his talent at the international level.

Samson, who features for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, has earned plaudits from fans as well as pundits around the world for his outrageous batting skills.

However, the Kerala swashbuckler has often flattered to deceive due to the inconsistency in his performances and it’s something that Wasim Jaffer wants him to shrug off if he wants out to carve out a long sting for himself in Indian colors.

Samson has featured in just 7 T20Is in his stop-start international career since his debut in 2015, and the upcoming series against Sri Lanka will be yet another opportunity for the Kerala batsman to showcase his potential in Indian colors and make a strong case for himself for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“Sanju Samson is another player I am looking forward to. I want him to do well. He’s an exciting player but somewhere I feel he hasn’t done justice to his talent for the Indian team. He’s obviously got runs in the IPL but somewhere I feel there’s a tag attached to him which says he hasn’t been consistent. He gets runs and then you’ll see three or four low scores and then after a while, he scores runs. I feel we need to see him rectify that,” said Wasim Jaffer.

Samson was appointed captain of Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2020 IPL season and the right-hander showed signs of maturity both as a batter as well as a leader, Jaffer noted.

“I saw that change in him this season when he was captain for the Rajasthan Royals and he batted very responsibly in a couple of games. You know, that’s what we need to see him do because he’s an outstanding talent,” he added.
