Former India wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik has made his prediction about team India's possible playing XI at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He picked Virat Kohli as the one to open with Rohit Sharma.

In just 2 days' time, the Indian team under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, will be playing their first Group A game against Ireland on June 5. The Nassau County stadium in New York will play host to the match and the following 2 India matches against Pakistan and USA on June 9 and 11.

The Men in Blue will conclude their Group stages with a clash against Canada at the Central Broward Regional Park in Flordia. The most anticipated match is going to be the one between India and Pakistan, a fixture in which Dinesh Karthik was a part of the 2022 Australia edition. It was the match where Virat Kohli prevailed against all odds and fans witnessed the shot of the century.

Dinesh Karthik snubs Yashasvi Jaiswal and backs Virat Kohli to open

During his recent appearance in Cricbuzz's T20 World Cup 2024 show, Dinesh Karthik was asked to name his batting order for the event by Gaurav Kapur. Karthik in turn named the entire playing XI itself. The biggest omission he made was of Yashasvi Jaiswal from the opening slot with skipper Rohit Sharma.

Dinesh Karthik backed his RCB teammate in IPL 2024 - Virat Kohli to pair up with Rohit up top. Kohli is a very well-known opening batter in the Indian Premier League circuit as he majorly operates as the man to give the team a flying start for the Bengaluru franchise.

In IPL 2024, Virat Kohli experienced his second-best run-scoring season as he won the Orange Cap for amassing 741 runs from 15 games. He was largely responsible for RCB's late flourish in IPL 2024 which saw them qualify for the play-offs after a famous win over CSK in Bengaluru. Thus, DK feels Kohli is best suited with Rohit Sharma in the World Cup.

No place for Sanju Samson as Karthik puts Rishabh Pant at number 3

Dinesh Karthik then axed Sanju Samson from his probable playing XI to facilitate Rishabh Pant at number 3. The 1st down role perfectly suited Pant on his National team return during India's warm-up tie against Bangladesh 2 days ago in New York. At number 4, DK picked Suryakumar Yadav.

Karthik then picked a batting-heavy middle-order and lower middle-order. He put Hardik Pandya at 5, Shivam Dube at 6, Ravindra Jadeja at 7, and Axar Patel at 8 with Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh completing the batting order.

Dinesh Karthik's predicted playing XI

Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (VC), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh
