The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has finally come to an end with India beating New Zealand last night by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The Men in Blue created history on Sunday night after winning their third ICC T20 World Cup title. They became the first team to achieve the milestone.
After a month of exciting cricketing affairs, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the Team of the Tournament for the recently concluded marquee event. It has been picked by the ICC selection panel consisting of former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop, former England captain Eoin Morgan, coach-turned-commentator Natalie Germanos, ICC representative Gaurav Saxena, and senior Sri Lankan sports journalist Rex Clementine.
No New Zealand players in ICC Team of the Tournament
There have been some shocking inclusions and exclusions in the list. No cricketers from New Zealand have made it to the Team of the Tournament. Finn Allen and Tim Seifert had an excellent tournament as the two openers carried their team to the final of the T20 World Cup.
However, neither of them got into the Team of the Tournament. The two batters scored 326 and 298 runs, respectively, but were overlooked. Seifert finished off as the second-highest run getter in the competition.
Sanju Samson picked as opener alongside Sahibzada Farhan
Sanju Samson was the game-changer for India in the T20 World Cup. Since his inclusion, he scored 321 runs in just 5 innings for the Men in Blue and a match-winning 89 in the final as well. Thus, he got the Player of the Tournament award as well.

Alongside Sanju, Sahibzada Farhan has also been inducted in the Team of the Tournament squad. He is the other opener, as the Pakistan batter finished as the leading run getter with 383 runs, though his team did not qualify for the semi-finals.
Aiden Makram was selected as captain
Ishan Kishan, Aiden Markram, Hardik Pandya, Will Jacks, and Jason Holder were picked as the middle-order players in the Team of the Tournament. Kishan was excellent with the bat as he scored 317 runs for India and finished fourth in the leading run scorer list.
Makram has been named as the captain for the Team of the Tournament, as he led South Africa brilliantly to the semi-final, scoring 286 runs in the tournament. Hardik Pandya has been added as the all-rounder, alongside Will Jacks, who had a massive impact in the tournament, scoring 226 runs and picking 9 wickets. Holder was also added as he played a crucial role in the group stages for the Windies, picking 10 wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah is leading the way
Jasprit Bumrah's name had to be there as he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with 14 wickets. Bumrah was even the Man of the Match in the final for his sensational spell of 4/15.
Lungi Ngidi has also been added for his amazing campaign, picking 12 wickets and finishing as the leading wicket-taker for the Proteas. Adil Rashid and Blessing Muzarabani have been the last two players to be added. As the latter had a brilliant World Cup for Zimbabwe.
Shadley Van Schalkwyk has been added as the 12th man for his exceptional group stage performance and picking 13 wickets in just 4 games for the USA.
