Sanju Samson's career will end due to Shubman Gill - India teammate

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin foresees an end to Sanju Samson's international career after the return of Shubman Gill to the Indian T20I side for the Asia Cup 2025.
The Indian side for the Asia Cup 2025 has been picked, and it marks the return of Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill. Shubman has been an asset to the Indian team; however, he was not part of the Indian squad for the last three T20I series against Bangladesh, South Africa, and England.
However, former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin feels that the return of Shubman to the Indian side would mark an end to the career of the Rajasthan Royals skipper for India. The opening spot has been the only position Sanju Samson has thrived in, but with Gill's entry, he is likely to be benched.
Ravichandran Ashwin foresees an end to Sanju Samson's India career
Ashwin, through his YouTube channel, has analysed India's T20I squad for the ACC event, and he thinks that Shubman Gill, a likely candidate who made a deserving return to the side, would mark the end of Sanju Samson's international career.
"Genuinely, I understand Shubman Gill's selection. He is also the vice-captain. He has scored a lot of runs for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL. He has credentials to be picked in the T20I setup," he added.
"What is sadder is that you have announced Gill as the vice-captain, so Sanju Samson's place is also under threat. Sanju Samson is not going to play. Shubman Gill will play, and he will open the batting," he asserted.
Ashwin sympathises with Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal over Asia Cup snub
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin showed sympathy with the Indian players Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who, despite commendable performances, failed to impress the selectors enough for an Asia Cup selection.
"See, I understand that selection is a thankless job. Leaving somebody out, telling someone they are dropped, it is not an easy thing. You have to speak to the players, you have to go through the sadness."
"I just hope Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal were given a call, and they were told the reasons behind not being picked," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel 'Ash Ki Baat'.
"When you have Yashasvi Jaiswal as the third opener in the T20 World Cup 2024, to remove someone from the World Cup squad and bring in Shubman Gill. I mean, it's okay, I am happy for Shubman, but I'm very sad for both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer. It is just not fair to these two kids," said Ashwin with a great logical explanation.
But it is not necessary to have the same captain in all formats - Ashwin
The chief selector Ajit Agarkar has hinted towards Shubman Gill's appointment as the all-format skipper in the future since he has said that he will be groomed to be elevated for the roles and has hence been appointed as the T20I vice-captain.
"Jaiswal has also been in some fine form. Maybe they are thinking of Shubman Gill as the leader for the future. Maybe he can be the all-format captain. But it is not necessary to have the same captain in all formats," Ashwin further said.
