India Women beat Ireland by five runs via the DLS method in the final group game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, on Monday, February 20. The Women in Blue confirmed their berth in the semi-finals of the marquee event with their victory. Former cricketer Anjum Chopra believes that Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana batted like they were not in form.

Team India scored 155 runs for the loss of six wickets after winning the toss. They got off to a decent start, with Shafali and Mandhana adding 62 runs for the first wicket in 9.3 overs. The left-handed batter registered her career-best T20I score of 87 off 56 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. Ireland scored 54 runs in 8.2 overs, and they were short of five runs as per the DLS method.

India Managed To Put Up A Decent Score On The Board – Anjum Chopra

In a video shared on her YouTube channel, Anjum Chopra questioned the mindset of opening batsmen Mandhana and Shafali while batting, as the two players had a long net session before the match. Chopra said that Mandhana helped India put up a respectable total in difficult conditions.

“Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana batted well, but their batting wasn’t convincing. I was surprised. Both players have been scoring runs and had a long net session before the match as well. The catch practice that they gave, I felt strange. Why are you batting with the mindset that you are not in form? This should not happen,” Anjum Chopra said.

“Largely thanks to Smriti Mandhana’s knock, India managed to put up a decent score on the board. The wind suddenly picked up, and then it rained as well. Conditions were difficult,” he added.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team is likely to face Australia in the semi-final match of the ongoing World Cup. It will be a tough match for India, as they don’t have a good record against Australia in the shorter format of the game.
