Former Pakistan skipper and legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi has expressed his excitement for the upcoming three-match Test series between Australia and Pakistan. He is anticipating a tough competition between the two sides for the Benaud-Qadir Trophy.

Shahid Afridi acknowledged Australia’s traditional strength, both physically and mentally, and recognized them as a cricketing powerhouse. He described them as a formidable side in their own conditions, presenting a constant threat.

“Aussies are traditionally strong, both mentally and physically,” Afridi acknowledges the World Champions as a cricket powerhouse. “They are a very formidable side in their own conditions and facing them is always a challenge,” Afridi said, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Shahid Afridi also emphasized the potential of Australia’s current batting line-up which includes red-ball specialists like Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Usman Khawaja, anticipating a fierce competition for Pakistan’s bowling lineup during the Benaud-Qadir Trophy.

“They have a very strong batting order, and I expect a good contest during the Benaud Qadir Trophy. The series will undoubtedly be a test of skills and resilience,” he added.

Shahid Afridi Believes Shaheen Afridi Will Play A Crucial Role In The Series

The former Pakistan skipper expressed confidence in Shaheen Afridi’s potential to play a key role in the upcoming series against Australia. “Shaheen Afridi’s bowling spells will be extremely important in Australia. He possesses the skills to trouble any batter in the world. Bowling in Australian conditions will be a good learning experience for him, and I believe he will play a crucial role in the series,” Afridi concluded.

Shaheen Afridi has played 27 Test matches for Pakistan and has picked up 105 wickets at an average of 25.58. However, he has only played two Test matches in Australia and has taken only five wickets in the Australian conditions. It will be an interesting battle between Pakistan’s pace attack and Australia’s batting attack.

Furthermore, it will be Shan Masood’s first Test series as Pakistan’s captain and David Warner’s last series in Test cricket. The first match will start on December 14 in Perth followed by the Boxing-day Test in Melbourne from December 26. The teams will then meet for the third and last Test of this series in Sydney after the New Year celebrations. David Warner will get to play his farewell Test on his home ground in the SCG.
