Shahid Afridi Responds To BCCI's Plans of Extending IPL Window, Says 'India is Biggest Cricket Market, Whatever They Will Say Will Happen'

Shahid Afridi responded to BCCI’s plans of extending the IPL window saying that India is the biggest cricket market and whatever they say will happen. BCCI is currently in talks with ICC and other cricket boards to extend the IPL window in the coming years.

Earlier, IPL had only 8 teams due to which the number of matches was 60. Now, since the number of teams has increased to 10, the total number of matches is expected to increase in the coming years which will increase the IPL windows too. In IPL 2022, a total of 74 games took place and are bound to increase in coming seasons.

Whatever India Will Say Will Happen: Shahid Afridi

During a show on Pakistan TV channel SAMAA TV titled Game Set Match, former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi was asked about ICC’s response to BCCI on extending the IPL window. To this, Shahid Afridi responded that whatever India says will happen because it is the biggest cricket market.

“It all comes down to the market and the economy. The biggest [cricket] market is India. Whatever they will say will happen” Shahid Afridi said.

Since IPL is the biggest and most popular T20 franchise league, cricketers from all around the world participate in it. As a result, international tournaments witness a halt during the IPL window as most of the top players are busy with their IPL commitments.

However, since Pakistani players are not part of IPL due to political tensions between both countries, longer IPL windows will mean lesser international campaigns for Pakistan during IPL tournament. The Pakistan team is usually open to playing international games during IPL tournaments.
