Bangladesh National Cricket Team selector Hannan Sarkar has provided a colossal update on the availability of the star 37-year-old all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for the second Test against India National Cricket Team.

The second and last Test of the Bangladesh tour of India 2024 is scheduled to commence on September 27 at Green Park in Kanpur. Bangladesh will be heading into the match 0-1 down in the series, having lost the first Test match by a huge margin of 280 runs.

One of the key reasons behind Bangladesh facing an absolute thrashing at the hands of India was the poor performance of the veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

He only managed to score 32 and 25 runs in two innings and he was poor with the ball as well. The left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder registered the figures of 0/50 in the first innings and 0/79 in the second innings.

Shakib Al Hasan became a major talking point during the first Test despite him not delivering goods with the bat or ball. He was in the spotlight due to the concerns over his injuries.

Bangladesh's oldest Test cricketer Shakib was brought into the attack belatedly by skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto which raised eyebrows.

Then, commentator Murali Kartik revealed on air that Shakib Al Hasan had informed him about discomfort on his spinning finger and shoulder. However, BCB's chief physician, Dr Debashish, and batting coach, David Hemp, said that they were unaware of Shakib's injury issues.

We always have to think before picking Shakib Al Hasan for the next match and there is time before the next match - Bangladesh selector

Bangladesh selector Hannan Sarkar has now come up with the latest update on the situation of the all-rounder, revealing that the physios are closely monitoring the veteran all-rounder and the decision on his availability for the second Test will be made later.

Hannan Sarkar also mentioned that Shakib Al Hasan was named in the playing XI because he was cleared by physios and was 100% fit for the first match.

"Shakib is our best player. When he is in the playing eleven, it's easier for us to form the team combination. We always have to think before picking Shakib for the next match and there is time before the next match. We will see what condition he is in," Hannan Sarkar told reporters.

"We know the pain in his hand is being discussed. It was not there before the match and many have tried to explain it in different ways. But before the match, we got a 100 per cent clearance from the physio before taking him. He was a 100 percent fit then. You can't say it's an injury. The discomfort he felt in that finger was not there before the match. He felt that when he started to bowl," he added.

"We don't want to make a decision yet. These two days, the physio has kept him under observation. When we get back to the ground, we will get the physio's feedback," he concluded.
