Aaron Finch has picked his former teammate as the greatest Australian cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the popular 'This or That' challenge. The former opening batter stated that Shane Watson is the greatest Australian IPL player ever, ahead of players like David Warner and Shane Warne.

Australian players have made a big impact in IPL history and contributed to title wins. Shane Watson starred in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) 2018 triumph, David Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to glory in 2016, and Shane Warne played a crucial role in Rajasthan Royals' (RR) victory in the inaugural edition.

In a video shared by ESPNcricinfo on X (formerly known as Twitter), Finch participated in a 'This or That' game. In this game, Finch had to pick the greatest Australian IPL player from the choices given to him.

The game started with Michael Hussey and Shane Warne. Finch picked Hussey over Warner and went for the left-handed batter over Shaun Marsh, Dan Christian, and Glenn Maxwell. However, he chose Travis Head over Hussey. He continued to pick Head over Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, and Ricky Ponting.

Aaron Finch Names Shane Watson as the Greatest Australian in IPL History

The former Australia skipper gave up on Head when Josh Hazlewood's name came up. Finch picked Hazlewood over Tim David, but it was short-lived as Mitchell Johnson was picked over him in the next round.

Finch chose Johnson over Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins before picking Shane Watson. When asked to choose between Shane Watson and David Warner, Finch took a brief pause before picking the former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder.

Aaron Finch played for nine franchises in the history of the IPL. The right-handed batter scored 1,631 runs in 92 matches at an average of 24.89 and a strike rate of 128.21, including 15 half-centuries. He is currently commentating in the IPL 2025 season.

Shane Watson, one of the greatest all-rounders in cricket, played for the Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) across 145 matches. Watson clinched his first title with RR in 2008 and then again with CSK in 2018.

He captained RR in 2014 and 2015 and stepped in as captain for three games in 2017 while with RCB. Watson amassed 3,874 runs in 141 innings at an average of 30.99 and a strike rate of 137.92, including four centuries and 21 half-centuries. He scored an unbeaten 117 runs in the 2018 final, helping CSK secure their third title.

The 43-year-old was the first-ever IPL MVP in 2008 and won the award again in 2013. With the ball, his best bowling performance came in 2016 with 20 wickets. Overall, he took 92 wickets at an average of 29.15 and an economy rate of 7.93, with best bowling figures of 4/29.
