Former Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan recently overlooked skipper Rohit Sharma while naming the funniest character in the national cricket team. Shikhar Dhawan has picked Virat Kohli as the funniest character in the Indian team despite Rohit Sharma's funny things both on and off the field.

Dhawan has retired from all forms of international and domestic cricket. The left-handed batter played many matches with Virat Kohli in his cricketing career. They played 110 limited-overs matches together, including 87 ODIs and 23 T20Is. The duo also shared the field for Delhi in domestic cricket.

Virat Kohli Is The Funniest In The Indian team - Shikhar Dhawan

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shikhar Dhawan named Virat Kohli as the funniest character in the Indian cricket team. Dhawan highlighted his long-standing bond with Kohli, adding that they have shared a strong relationship since childhood.

“Virat Kohli is the funniest in the Indian team. I share a great bond & relationship with him we played together from childhood days,” said Dhawan in an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times.

Virat Kohli last played in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, which India lost 2-0. The 35-year-old retired from T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024. The right-handed batter is currently in London on a break from cricket and is expected to participate in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Shikhar Dhawan's Illustrious Cricketing Career

The Delhi-born cricketer made his international debut for India in an ODI match against Australia in 2010. However, he was dismissed for a duck on his first outing in international cricket. The left-handed batter played a key role in the Indian team’s win during the 2013 Champions Trophy in England.

Dhawan earned the ‘golden bat’ for being the top run-scorer in the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy tournaments. The 38-year-old was also India’s leading run-scorer in the 2015 ODI World Cup. He was named ‘Mr. ICC’ for his exceptional performances for the Indian cricket team in ICC ODI events.

Dhawan scored 6,793 runs in 167 ODIs at an average of 44.11, including seven centuries. He scored 1,759 runs in 68 T20Is with an average of 27.92 and a strike rate of 126.36, featuring 11 fifties. He amassed 2,315 runs in 34 Test matches at an average of 40.61, with seven centuries and five fifties.

The opening batter also played crucial knocks in the IPL. He has represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals, Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings. He is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history, with 6,769 runs from 222 matches, including two centuries and 51 half-centuries.

Shikhar Dhawan first gained attention during the 2004 U-19 World Cup, where he scored 505 runs, including three centuries. His impressive performance made him the top run-scorer of the tournament.
