Ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup and upcoming global events this year, several injury setbacks emerged as a major concern for the India National Cricket Team.
Across the formats, the team management has been forced to refresh the squads. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Varun Chakravarthy, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, and there are over ten well-known Indian cricketers who suffered injuries in the recent past.
Shubman Gill, India’s captain of the Test and ODI formats, addressing the injury concerns, said, “If we keep the World Cup in mind, we have to play 11 matches in a row. And here the players are not even able to finish 2-3 series of matches.”
Meanwhile, this article tracks prominent India players who are currently down with injuries.
Jasprit Bumrah injury update: Knee issue keeps India's pace spearhead sidelined
Jasprit Bumrah was named in the team for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. On Sunday, according to the latest update, the pacer was ruled out of the series entirely because of an injury in his left knee. It is unclear when he will return to competitive matches. As of now, the fast bowler is in Bengaluru, recovering from the knee injury.
A BCCI official mentioned that they will not take any risk with Bumrah’s fitness. Who will be the replacement for the pace spearhead for the series against Sri Lanka? The board will have to announce the replacement soon as the series will start on August 15.
Hardik Pandya injury update: Recovery continues after quadriceps setback
For the past few weeks, Hardik Pandya continued to be in the headlines for updates related to his fitness. The pace-bowling all-rounder, who missed multiple IPL 2026 matches because of back spasms, was about to return to Team India through the series against Ireland and England.
But a fresh quadriceps setback did not allow him to make the much-awaited comeback during the tour. He is in Bengaluru at the Center of Excellence, undergoing a rehabilitation programme. As of now, there is no concrete information on his return date.
Nitish Kumar Reddy injury update: Quadriceps injury delays India comeback
Nitish Kumar Reddy, another pace bowling all-rounder, is currently out of action because of a quadriceps injury. He picked up the injury while bowling against Afghanistan in Dharamsala during the third ODI match in Dharamashala. Due to the injury, he missed the UK tour and then the series against Zimbabwe. His return date is yet to be confirmed.
Reddy was considered the back-up of injured Hardik Pandya. His injury means that, like Hardik, Team India is currently without a back-up option as well. In the absence of both Hardik and Nitish Kumar Reddy, the team management debuted Suryansh Shedge as an all-rounder during the UK tour.
Harshit Rana injury update: Another setback after recent comeback
After a long injury lay-off, the fast bowler returned to action during India’’s tour of the United Kingdom. His return was short-lived, as the bowler suffered a Grade 1 right hamstring injury after playing just a few matches following a knee injury. Currently undergoing training and conditioning at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Without Harshit Rana with the team, the team clearly lacks the strong bridge between the batting and bowling departments, as he has nice batting skills as well to help the team under difficult circumstances.
Washington Sundar injury update: Hamstring concern affects Test plans
The spin bowling all-rounder suffered a right hamstring injury during the second ODI against England in Cardiff in the mid of July, and is going through a recovery phase. According to the latest updates, he is uncertain to face Sri Lanka in the upcoming Test match (August 15–19, 2026) in Galle.
As there are very limited spin bowling all-rounders in Indian cricket who can provide instant effect in international matches, the Indian team management is left with very limited options ahead of the multiple key events.

Prince Yadav injury update: Hamstring injury halts promising start
Since making his debut for India in T20Is, the emerging fast bowler was doing well, taking wickets regularly.
