Former Pakistan cricketers and journalists have slammed Salman Ali Agha’s side for this horrific performance in Sri Lanka in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Some have also raised questions towards Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Shoaib Akhtar, clarifying on his comments, said, “My comments were never aimed at Mohsin Naqvi. The remark about incompetence was not directed at him at all — it was meant for the top brass who run international cricket. Some Indian TV channels twisted my words.”

“In the same programme, I even asked people not to say anything negative about Mohsin bhai, because I won’t tolerate that. I’ve always said he’s a good person who genuinely wants to help Pakistan cricket. But at the same time, he isn’t always given the right advice.”

Shoaib Akhtar takes a dig at Pakistan cricket

The explanation comes after his direct swipe during the post-match show on an Indian TV channel, at the PCB chairman and the PCB management. After the loss against India, Shoaib Akhtar took a dig at the PCB’s functioning and the leadership overseeing Pakistan cricket. He took a swipe, stating the potential risks of putting inexperienced people in positions of management.

He later on claimed that poor decision-making at the top ultimately spills over to the field. However, this comment of his was misunderstood by many people as they believed this was directed towards the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, which created a stir.

Mohsin Naqvi has been making the headlines even before the start of the match. He has been in the news since Pakistan announced to boycott the game against India. Then later, taking a U-turn, and play the match. During the match, he even left the field before the match was finished after watching Pakistan’s poor batting performance.

Mohsin Naqvi is unhappy with some Pakistan players

Mohsin Naqvi has also been furious with some senior cricketers in the team after their poor performances in the most important game against India. However, as Shoaib Akhtar attempts to divert his stance, the bigger question remains around Pakistan cricket’s direction.

As they have now lost 6 games in a row against India across all competitions. India, after winning last Sunday, has now extended the lead to 8-1 in nine meetings against their arch-rivals in the T20 World Cup format.

Pakistan, after their loss against the Men in Blue, will enter their final game against Namibia on Wednesday, which is a potential knockout, as they would be out of the competition if they lose this game, as their run rate has been in negative after their loss against India.
