Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) went head-to-head with the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 14th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Team Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost the match against Team Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, April 2.

Not 200, we were targeting around 190 after the powerplay - Rajat Patidar

Royal Challengers Bengaluru were invited to bat first in the match, and they had a terrible outing, getting restricted to 169/8 in 20 overs, with Liam Livingstone being the top performer with 54 runs in his bag.

With the ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed Shubman Gill early, but Jos Buttler (73*) and Sai Sudharsan (49) took the game away from RCB and the run-chase was completed in 17.5 overs.

Speaking after the match, the RCB skipper Rajat Patidar said that they were trying to register a score of around 190 in the match, but the poor powerplay didn't let that happen. Rajat Patidar said:

"Not 200, we were targeting around 190 after the powerplay, but losing early wickets harmed this match."

"I think the intent was good, but we shouldn't have lost as many as 3 wickets in the PP, it was one wicket too many."

The conditions did get better, the bowlers were amazing trying to defend - Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar further lauded his bowlers for doing a good job while defending the score and also expressed confidence in the batting unit of RCB to bounce back strong. He elaborated:

"The conditions did get better, the bowlers were amazing trying to defend this total, to take this chase into the 18th over was amazing to watch.

"The way Jitesh, Liam Livingstone, and Tim David, the way they batted, it was a positive for us. We're confident about the batting line-up; they're showing some positive intent, which is very good for us."

How did RCB perform in the previous IPL match against GT?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered a dominant performance against Gujarat Titans (GT), in their previous match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2024 and clinched a 4-wicket win with 38 balls remaining.

Opting to bowl first in the match, Mohammed Siraj set the tone early by dismissing Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill cheaply while Cameron Green soon dismissed Sai Sudharsan, leaving GT in a spot of bother at 19/3.

From thereon, RCB bowlers kept picking up wickets at regular intervals, and despite a small fightback from GT’s middle order, RCB bowled them out for 147 in 19.3 overs.

In reply, RCB got off to a blistering start, thanks to a sensational partnership between Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli. Faf du Plessis smashed 64 runs off just 23 balls while Virat Kohli scored 42 runs off 27 balls. RCB raced to 92 runs inside the powerplay and all but clinched the win.

However, a dramatic middle-order collapse saw them lose six wickets in no time. Noor Ahmad and Josh Little ignited GT’s hope but Dinesh Karthik (21*) and Swapnil Singh (15*) shattered it and ensured there were no further hiccups, guiding RCB home in 13.4 overs.
