India limited-overs middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has earned a spot in the 45-member squad picked by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for a fitness training camp. Shreyas Iyer remains on track to making an international comeback after being on the sidelines due to a shoulder injury. The right-handed batsman could feature in the second half of IPL 2021 in the UAE.
Shreyas Iyer has not played professional cricket since March. The 26-year old sustained an injury to his shoulder during the first ODI against England while fielding. As a result, he was ruled out of IPL 2021 and underwent surgery. Rishabh Pant replaced the 26-year old as the skipper of the Delhi Capitals, which topped the first half of the tournament this year
Nevertheless, there’s still no clarity over Shreyas Iyer’s participation in the second phase of IPL 2021 in the UAE. Furthermore, with Rishabh Pant being successful in his maiden captaincy stint, it remains to be seen if Iyer gets his captaincy position back. But MCA’s announcement augurs well for the Mumbai-born cricketer, at least in terms of returning to the Capitals’ squad.
