India National Cricket Team star batsman and the Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper, Shreyas Iyer, is highly likely to be included in the squad for the Asia Cup 2025.
On the other hand, the young India batting sensations Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are set to be snubbed from the India T20I squad, according to the latest report in Sportstar.
Shreyas Iyer all set for India T20I comeback
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer seems to have won back the trust of the selectors with his exceptional performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Iyer played aggressive cricket while captaining Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 and steered the team to the summit clash. He led PBKS from the front and consistently scored runs for the team.
Iyer showcased great confidence in his own abilities and finished the season with 604 runs in his bag at an amazing average of 50.33 and an excellent strike rate of 175.07.
Shreyas Iyer last played a T20I game for India way back in December 2023 at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and since then, he was kept out of the side due to multiple reasons.
Even after guiding the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL 2024 triumph, Shreyas Iyer was overlooked by selectors, but now things are set to change, with the batter likely to make it to the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025.

Jitesh Sharma set to be back-up wicketkeeper; BCCI to decide on Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube
Alongside Shreyas Iyer, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma is all set to receive his India recall.
The 31-year-old Jitesh Sharma was mighty impressive for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025 as he played some explosive knocks while batting down the order.
He last featured in a T20I match for India against Afghanistan at Holkar Stadium in Indore on January 14, 2024. Jitesh Sharma will serve as the backup wicketkeeper-batsman for India in the Asia Cup 2025, with Sanju Samson being the first-choice.
Meanwhile, the inclusion of Shreyas Iyer could come at the expense of Rinku Singh or Shivam Dube - both of whom were part of India's previous T20I series.
"Sportstar understands the selectors and team management are aligned on including an experienced middle-order batter suited to the slower, lower conditions expected in the UAE. If Shreyas is picked, it could mean a tough call on either Shivam Dube or Rinku Singh, both of whom were part of India’s last T20I assignment, against England in January," the report read.
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal to be snubbed
India Test skipper Shubman Gill and star opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal are unlikely to be picked when the BCCI selection committee meets on Tuesday to finalise the squad for the Asia Cup 2025.
Even though the duo have been highly impressive - both in international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) - the Gautam Gambhir-led team management wants to stick to the core combination that has worked for them since he took over the charge.
Also, the turnaround time for the home Test series against West Indies is very short, with the red-ball games starting on October 2 and the Asia Cup 2025 ending on September 28. The selectors want Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill to be fresh for the Test series.
