Team India middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer failed to convert his half-century into a three-digit score during the second ODI of the three-match series against Australia. Veteran leg-spinner Adam Zampa dismissed Iyer for his first wicket of the ongoing match at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Thursday, October 23.

Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl for the second time in the series. The Australian pacers were exceptional with the new ball, restricting India to 17-2 in 6.5 overs. However, former skipper Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer revived the innings with a 118-run stand for the third wicket.

The right-handed batter had showcased excellent timing and placement, hitting a full delivery through extra cover for four. However, Zampa made a comeback on the very next delivery.

Zampa bowled a slightly shorter delivery outside off stump. Iyer attempted a drive, but the ball took a thick inside edge and hit the stumps. His dismissal left India at 160/4 while batting first.

Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer Rescue India After Early Wickets of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli

Xavier Bartlett struck twice in the seventh over, dismissing skipper Shubman Gill for 9 off the first ball and then removing Virat Kohli for a four-ball duck on the fifth delivery.

Following these quick wickets, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer steadied India’s innings. Rohit reached his 59th ODI half-century, his fifth in Australia and 10th against the Aussies, while also completing 150 sixes in SENA countries. Shreyas Iyer also brought up his half-century.

At the time of writing, the Men in Blue were 198/5 after 40 overs, with Axar Patel (30 off 28) and Washington Sundar (9 off 10) at the crease. Adam Zampa picked up two wickets, while Mitchell Starc claimed one scalp.

India trail 0-1 in the three-match series after a seven-wicket defeat in the first ODI via the DLS method. A victory in the second match is crucial to remain in contention ahead of the series-deciding clash in Sydney on Saturday, October 25.

Left Out a Match-Winner In Favour of Harshit Rana - Shashi Tharoor

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor criticized Team India’s decision to leave Kuldeep Yadav out of the playing XI in favor of Harshit Rana for the second ODI against Australia.

Tharoor described the decision as “idiotic” and added that Kuldeep should have been included instead of a less experienced pacer like Rana.

"So Xavier Bartlett took just four balls to show the Indian selectors the idiocy of their decision to leave out the most potent match-winner in their squad, @imkuldeep18, in favour of a journeyman pacer like Rana. It was wrong to omit Kuldeep in England & it is absurd not to pick him in Adelaide. Awful!" he posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
